What is EthicsforMedia and J-Ethinomics?
EthicsforMedia offers education in journalism ethics. We focus on J-Ethinomics: that is, the link between journalism, ethics, and economics. We believe in quality journalism practices that are both responsible and useful for strengthening the economics of the media industry.
When and why did EthicsforMedia begin? EthicsforMedia and the concept of J-Ethinomics were created by Melisande Middleton, a co-founder of the Center for International Media Ethics CIME. She envisioned a strategy to address ethics with regard to the increasingly dire economic environment that journalists and their associated businesses are facing. The transition to digital media has brought on economic challenges for the media industry, which were worsened by the 2008 financial crisis. EthicsforMedia fills a niche by teaching journalism ethics via methods that also bolster the ability of news organizations to prosper as businesses.
Who is behind EthicsforMedia? EthicsforMedia is run by an international team of CIME journalists, media experts, and researchers. See our Staff page for more information.
Where is EthicsforMedia based? EthicsforMedia Staff, Instructors, and other collaborators are based in many locations. This online network makes us truly international, with participation from all corners of the globe.
What is the legal status of EthicsforMedia? EthicsforMedia is part of the Center for International Media Ethics CIME, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing media ethics training, discussion and expertise for low-income journalists worldwide.
